With nearly every analyst report, news column, blogpost, or conference, I usually find myself wondering how that particular voice or medium would achieve the goals of sustainability, and more widely, the more I read… the more I realize we (as a people) need to sit down and work out just what exactly the goal of sustainability is.
Is sustainability about green jobs for a district, or about clean water for a population? Is it about IP ownership, or about bringing to the market solutions that will have maximum impact?
Sometimes I wonder… and a recent quote from Shi Zhengrong (the founder of Suntech) at the World Economic Forum sums it up pretty nicely:
“Western countries worry about the dramatic price reduction and talk about dumping. That shows a protectionist attitude. That’s wrong. We must work together to promote and utilise each other’s strengths,”
