USTB is hosting the Symposium on Teaching and Implementing Sustainability and CES EduPack workshop in Beijing in June 28-30, 2016.
The world is facing a variety of crises related to the environment and the preservation of both natural resources and human survival. The complex problem of climate change and the preservation of resources for future generations demand that as a global community we develop a much more rigorous approach to Sustainability. A crucial aspect of this battle for survival is to educate our teachers, students, industrial leaders and fellow citizens about Sustainability and its role in managing the intelligent use of the Earth’s resources and our manufacturing processes. As scientists and engineers, we must approach Sustainability in a quantitative manner so that we have a basis for evaluating and comparing solutions for the selection of materials and processes and a variety of aspects of engineering design.
Based on Professor Ashby’s visit, University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) will organise a one-day symposium entitled “Teaching and Implementing Sustainability”.The objective of this symposium is to have a number of presentations from Universities and Industries in China on current approaches to teaching Sustainability in the engineering curriculum and how the importance of Sustainability influences industrial practice.
The presentations will be followed by an open discussion aimed not only to compare and develop teaching methods but to develop a basic study group in China to further education on Sustainability at all levels in China. The symposium welcomes faculty teachers/researchers from leading universities/research institutes as well engineers from industry.
