Bai Xian Asia Institute believes that education is the most critical tool in building a world of greater understanding, trust, and stability. By strengthening relationships among the peoples and educational institutions of Asia, we seek to promote lasting friendships and bridge gaps across cultural differences.
As a way to deepen this experience for our Bai Xian alumni, we are launching the Bai Xian Alumni Initiative Award, an award focused on encouraging and supporting our alumni to develop socially responsible action plans to address the critical challenges faced by Asia’s communities, environments, and economies.
THEMES:
• Long-lasting peace in East Asia
• Influence of Popular Culture in East Asia
• Poverty Issues in Asia & Globalization
• Aging Society and Women’s Role in Asia
• Science & Sustainability
PRIZES AND RECOGNITION:
One winning team will receive:
• Cash prize of US$2,500 for the whole team
• Seed funding of US$5,000 – 15,000 to take their idea forward
REQUIREMENTS:
• Team Size: Minimum of 3 persons / Maximum of 6 persons
• Team leader must be an AFLSP Scholar
• At least 50% of team members must have completed the BXAI Summer Program
• Each team will be supported by 2 mentors: one academic and one professional
BXAI shall nominate academic mentors from its network of partner universities
Each team must invite an off-campus mentor with relevant business/non-profit experience
• Cross-campus cooperation is encouraged and teams comprising members from more than one of our partner universities will receive special consideration in the assessment process
AWARD TIMELINE:
• December 31, 2016: Submission of initial proposal (including application form)
• February 28, 2017: Submission of draft business plan (including preliminary budget)
• May 31, 2017: Submission of final business plan (including revised budget)
• June 15, 2017: Finalists announcement
Selected finalists will present their action plans in front of our esteemed panel of judges at the next BXAI Summer Program in August 2017
