Intern Testimonials

Before immersing myself into the sustainability/CSR realm , I was just a communications major interested in one simple question that “how media rule the world”, while barely knowing anything about NGOs. What I learned at Collective Responsibility blew my mind.

The daily jobs were never daily routines; by searching, observing, probing, interviewing, organizing and writing/editing, I visualized a used-to-be-vague concept of being sustainable: the ugly urgent problem concerning to social issues in China and the brilliant brave actions various communities have been taken to fight it.

Though I can now use ‘big words’ to draft some fancy articles about the situation, I would rather tackle certain problems like rural education or migrant workers in a more pragmatic way, for that’s what my internship taught me.

Being an intern here is not just about great exposure to tremendous amount of information, connecting to people from all walks of life or gaining some credits for one’s resume, it’s about mentoring yourself in a whole new world view.

I’m now working in a Fortune 500 company and continuously contributing to the CSR work there, with the experience and knowledge I obtained from my internship. – Leigh, American

During my time with Collective Responsibility, I investigated social issues through conducting field and street interviews, analyzed data and facilitated online and event based discussions. I got to be apart of something that gave me first-hand knowledge about social responsibility and how to apply it in a local setting. The knowledge and experience that I gained from my internship have proved invaluable as I try and apply socially responsibility to my new job and everyday life.

“Collective Responsibility provided me with a friendly environment to work and learn. It was a rewarding learning experience for me. I got to practice various methods of collecting data and gained a better understanding of China’s transportation system and other sustainability-related fields through extensive research.” – Shirley Jiang, Research Analyst Intern

“The connections I made through CR and exposure to top industry leaders in China have given me a well-rounded perspective on business consulting. This helped me develop a managerial thinking-cap to address business problems in the sustainability world. In addition, it helped me developed quantitative thinking and networking skills that could be transferred to my future career.” – Jianyin Roachell, Research Analyst Intern

“My internship in 2015 with Collective Responsibility (CR) was an invaluable experience. China has shown to be the world’s most fascinating economy and interning at CR in Shanghai was the perfect opportunity to be in the centre of it all. I built strong relationships with people from a wide variety of fields because of the diverse, international team. In addition, due to the nature of CR’s small, intimate office environment, my work made a significant impact on a daily basis. Accordingly, my personal portfolio flourished as I explored different projects and developed skills I wouldn’t have been able to gain elsewhere. I’ve brought these skills with me to my current position in Toronto and look back on my internship with Collective Responsibility fondly.” – Andrew Diaz, Design & Communications Intern
