Interface: Sustainability Starts with Design

The importance of design to sustainable products cannot be understated. It is the front end of development and the point at which environmental harm can be best mitigated. The achievement of good design involves challenging designers to think “outside the box,” communicate the vision and to provide them with an in-depth understanding of the product’s lifecycle, from production to end of life recovery, such that they can incorporate all areas into the design process. Many challenges still exist within the area, but in the case of Interface, over the past 20 years great strides have been made.

In this video, Interface’s Erin Meezan discusses the company’s success, achievements in the areas of product design and provides insight into the challenges that still need to be overcome in attempting to achieve their future sustainability goals.
