Castilleja Social Innovation Forum

Challenge

Well-educated, open-minded and eager to help, students not only have all the basic qualities necessary to become good volunteers, they are the future leaders of tomorrow. Exposure to global sustainability issues is crucial to ensure the next generation is a socially-responsible generation.

Every year, Shanghai No. 3 High School hosts a week-long exchange program with the students from Castilleja High School based in Palo Alto, CA. In order to expand their understanding of China’s environmental, sustainability and social justice issues, Collective Responsibility was engaged to create and develop the framework for this immersion program.

Program

  • Created a two-day immersion for 30 female students from the Castilleja School.
  • Invited local female social entrepreneurs to speak about their work to develop social enterprises in China.
  • Created a workshop for students to engage their local peers in cross-cultural discussion about issues of common concern, and the need for new leadership

Outcomes & Impact

  • Exposed 30 American high school students to the issues that China is facing, and the opportunities for social entrepreneurs.
  • Provided multiple opportunities for students to gain exposure and learning experiences from female leaders in China.
